Album Update, Gig on June 4
Greetings to one and all, four three four, near and far…
Pre-production demos for the new album The Year Without A Summer are nearly complete. Once they pass thru the stage of nearly complete and become complete, we will book the studio time to record the final vocal tracks and then the bass and drums. i’ve been recording the guitars here at hOMe.
As stated in the previous update, we’re doing a live gig at Umlaut, in R2 on the downtown mall in Charlottesville on June 4, 2013, and the set list will be primarily made up of songs from the new album. We’re also going to be placing USB thumb drives all around the venue containing a selection of the pre-production demos. This means you’ll have a chance to hear some of the new album live for the very first time, and also have a chance to take some of it home with you.
If you come across one of these thumb drives, we hope that you’ll share whatever you find with all of your friends.

Live at Umlaut in R2, June 4th 2013
Greetings to everyone in the Four Three Four, near, and beyond.
We’ve been hard at work on the new album, The Year Without A Summer, for the last couple of months. We’re now ready to share it with you in a very special live event on June 4th of this year.
June 4th 2013
Umlaut @ R2
303 East Main Street
Charlottesville, Va
10pm ~ $5
In an exclusive for Umlaut, where we played our first live gig ever, we will be playing a set of almost entirely material culled from the new record, but with a couple of your old favorites thrown in as well. Many of these songs will be played live for the first time that night.
This record marks a pretty specific departure from the sound of the last few releases, and we absolutely can’t wait to share it with you.
Don’t miss it.

2013-04-20
2010-04-20 was the first ever Oh So live gig, at R2 inside Rapture.
2013-04-20 we will be celebrating the occasion by playing a short set just down the road… at the Charlottesville nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
the event starts at 5pm. there is a diverse lineup of bands, and a limited amount of time allotted to each, so we encourage you to arrive right at 5pm.
we’re going to be playing not one, but two songs from the upcoming album, The Year Without A Summer, currently in production.
we’re also going to have not one, but two dancers on stage with us.
this is a public event. please share it on your on profiles, and invite all of your friends.
we can’t wait to see you there.

Tell Me The Water Is Air
Greetings from all of us here at Oh So headquarters to all of you,
just before the close of 2012, i posted to say that the writing process for the second full length Oh So album was complete. as an update, we are in the full swing of the album’s pre-production phase, and i think that i can speak for the entire Oh So family when i say that we are all quite excited with the way that the album is evolving and can’t wait to start sharing it with all of our friends and fans. to that end i am hoping to launch a crowdfunding opportunity for the album whereby all of you in the four three four (both near and far) can help us achieve our goals for the album’s production, release, and subsequent promotion, and in return receive exclusive content.
while all of these details are still pending, i wanted to offer a preview of where things are going.
on February 2nd, Bruce and i had the opportunity to perform in an acoustic setting; something we have been wanting to do for a very long time. the occasion was an open house at The Faktori, a new venue for art and community projects in our home-away-from-home of Staunton, VA. rather than pull from the songs that dominated our set list last year, we decided to play a set of almost entirely new album songs. two of them had never been played live before.
over the next couple of weeks we’ll be posting video from that night on our YouTube profile. the first installment is one of the songs we debuted that night, “tell me the water is air.”
since today is a special day, you can also listen to an audio version of the performance on our soundcloud page:
speaking of soundcloud, i have been utilizing my personal soundcloud profile to post “work-in-progess” and pre-production demos for the new album. hearing the demo versions of songs from my favorite bands is something that i have always treasured, and so this is my way of returning the favor. they don’t stay up for long, so if you want to hear them, make sure to follow me there. here is the pre-production demo of “tell me the water is air.”
did i mention that today is a special day? for one day only, today, Wednesday the 13th, 2013, i have made both of these versions of “tell me the water is air” available for download on their respective soundcloud pages. that download option disappears tomorrow morning, so grab them while you can.
happy birthday, charley.

happy holidays
happy holidays from everyone in the Oh So family to all of you out there.
2012 was an interesting year. it was packed with lots of highs for the band, not limited to the release of the Erotic music video, winning the 434-and-beyond spanning Last Band Standing competition sponsored by Wild Wing Cafe, and the release of the Erotic Too EP. you can expect another EP, 434vII, in 2013 featuring remixes and alternate versions from both of the Erotic releases.
as we close the year i am pleased to report that i have completed the writing phase of our second album, which will be called The Year Without A Summer. It was originally conceived as a concept album about the summer of 2010, the year that we recorded our first album, All I Ever Wanted. what i have come to realize is that it is a concept album, but rather about everything that happened in my life during 2012, told thru the lense of the story of the summer of 2010.
it contains some of the darkest songs that i have ever written, and some of the brightest ones as well. you can expect it to invade your ears, brain, heart and soul in 2013.

jj williams

Oh So Wins Last Band Standing!
Beautiful Ones,
You did it! Because of you, we have succeeded in winning the Last Band Standing competition.
Special thanks to Rob Richmond, who ran sound for all three rounds we played, and to DJ Cadybug for keeping the momentum going in between bands. Extra special thanks to the staff at Wild Wing Cafe, who were a pleasure to work with.
Extra extra special thanks to Jam Thicket, the band we competed against in the final round, who put on an incredible show, and were some of the kindest, most humble people that we’ve ever played with. They exemplify the spirit of The 434.
We could not have accomplished this goal without the love and support of everyone that came to the shows, voted in the polls, and helped us spread the word online. This is Your Victory. No matter where you are, near or far, you are all a part of The 434.
To show our appreciation, here is a free download of the five song “434 vI” EP from our bandcamp page, available this weekend only. Pat yourselves on the back, because you deserve it! s/t

Two more 434 Shows in August
Beautiful Ones,
If you missed us last Thursday, or if we left you wanting more, we are happy to announce two more opportunities to come out and play this month…
The first is this Friday, August 10th at the Main Street Annex, where we will be supporting Kung Fu Dykes and Hunter’s Ground.
The second will be next Thursday, August 16th, where we will be returning to Wild Wing Cafe to compete in Round 2 of the LAST BAND STANDING event. With your love and support we were able to advance to this round, and with your further support we can advance again.
For the August 16th, LAST BAND STANDING event, there are a number of different ways to show your support for Oh So, including coming to the gig, posting about it and sharing the event on your facebook page, and “liking” Wild Wing Cafe to take part in a poll that will be created the day of the event.
See you soon…
