I rarely write songs one at a time; they come in groups of 3-6. Often I spend a lot of time working on one, and it seems impossible, but once it’s done, a bunch more flow out quite easily. This was not exactly easy to write, but 2 songs came out quite easily once it was done, including When I Was Blue. It started out just with acoustic guitar, and eventually morphed into the chugging, dance monster that it is now. The song is about wanting to make someone happy, but not feeling like anything you can do is good enough.-JJ

Born, it seems, already facing yesterday
Taught by life to always greet the world afraid
No one ever told me that the fight would last so long
Just to understand that love would always turn out wrong

And the path I’ve chosen is the one from which you fly
My greatest mistake was never learning to deny
Everything that I have felt and all that I could be
All I ever wanted was you to believe in me

Hope is lost and bleeding in the aftermath
Moments die beneath the gaze I feel you cast
Pray to end these days, though everything is left undone
It was always you that I was really running from

And the path I’ve chosen is the one from which you fly
My greatest mistake was never learning to deny
Everything that I have felt and all that I could be
All I ever wanted was you to believe in me

And the winds of change have never felt so strong before
Blowing in my heart, they seem to calm the rising storm
Filled with expectations and intentions as you are
To believe you, I must leave you
