The first time I ever experimented with using noise to create music was the first demo by IN TENEBRIS, which featured two improv noise tracks. One Thing I Could Never Conceive was the first time I had ever experimented arranging the noises along side synths, drums, and vocals to make a song with a standard structure, which inspired the line “I’d discovered something beautiful and strange.”
The lyrics were written somewhat reactionary. Before Oh So, I had a pretty strict self-imposed rule to never writing songs about sex- it seemed too “easy” and too much like a gimmick. After years and years of this self-imposed limit, I decided to throw it all away and see what happened. What happened was this song. -JJ

I realized on the first day I met you
I’d discovered something beautiful and strange
There was so much I knew that you could teach me
And so much that together we’d exchange

There is one thing I could never conceive
And if you told me I still wouldn’t believe
There is one thing I could never conceive
And I wouldn’t believe, no I didn’t dare dream

All my dirty words had turned to white noise
And sex, for me, had become so mundane
You came to me with wonderful positions
There’s no end to the pleasure in your pain

There is one thing I could never conceive
And if you told me I still wouldn’t believe
There is one thing I could never conceive
And I wouldn’t believe, no I didn’t dare dream

Don’t tell me you don’t want to reach out and touch me
And fuck me and suck me until I’m dry
I’m through with envy if you want to use me
Than I’ll let you bleed me until I die

I wander through my old life as if dreaming
And from your face and hands I’ll never stray
I realize I have begun to love you
There’s no shame in admitting…

There is one thing I could never conceive
And if you told me I still wouldn’t believe
There is one thing I could never conceive
And I wouldn’t believe, no I didn’t dare dream

Don’t tell me, Don’t tell me, Don’t tell me no…
