Turn was originally written during the recording of the debut album ALL I EVER WANTED. I had designs on finishing it for the record, but it didn’t make it past the initial demo stage and was replaced on the album by the song This Mistake. It’s a simple kind of ballad, with my even simpler piano playing (if you can call it that) about seeing someone you care about hurting and wanting to comfort them. I’m often fascinated by the way the meaning of a word or action can change based on the context of it’s use, and that’s what I tried to explore with the lyrics; first we see positive (I’d love to turn you on), followed by shame (All eyes now turn away) and of course sadness (And as you turn away, you leave the sheets in disarray).
This song probably would have languished in the vault unfinished, but while preparing some remixes I was inspired to guide it out of the demo stages, and as an outtake it seemed to fit in with the remixes on the 434 EP.-JJ

I’d love to turn you on
Betray the grains of sand still falling
There is no world beyond
The walls you see, the voice that’s calling
All eyes now turn away
I know that I can’t make you stay
Or keep the fear at bay
You leave the sheets in disarray
I’d love to turn you on
And find a way to make it linger
I know you love the song
But wonder if you love the singer
The evening fades to grey
I know that I can’t make you stay
And as you turn away
You leave the sheets in disarray
I’d love to turn you on
With sacred touch no longer fleeting
We’d light the sky, neon
And raise the dawn by night defeating
I cannot make you stay
I can’t replace who’d turn away
Or keep the fear at bay
You leave my nights in disarray
